<br />
Hi, I'm <a href="http://adltexas.org/pets/bernie-3/" target="_blank">Bernie</a>. I'm a healthy, affectionate 5-year old with super soft fur. (Can you see how well I take care of it? I am very fastidious and groom myself daily.) My foster humans call me Big Boy Bernie because I was found in the streets (weighing 20 pounds) and brought to Animal Care Services. I have a microchip, but my previous humans never registered it, so I'm now without a permanent home. The Animal Defense League took me in and put me on a special diet to lose the excess weight. I'm a big-boned kitty, so even at my ideal weight, I'm still a "Big Boy". That just means there is more of me to love!<br />
<br />
<table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; text-align: center;"><tbody>
<tr><td style="text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhpdcPl8ztGvyV-Q1J1j0ZNSmKorJ2CfcSbrKyedpVshiOgDDOxcM7MMt6FEPF9Wu9jwtpnejOt1eXQ5FXWw3cCp-aL6vuu1LH_v6VELAEvjEVfnhUcdof4Gn2vXhdeweHNZCm8XR81BXh0/s1600/bernie+lap.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><img border="0" height="302" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhpdcPl8ztGvyV-Q1J1j0ZNSmKorJ2CfcSbrKyedpVshiOgDDOxcM7MMt6FEPF9Wu9jwtpnejOt1eXQ5FXWw3cCp-aL6vuu1LH_v6VELAEvjEVfnhUcdof4Gn2vXhdeweHNZCm8XR81BXh0/s1600/bernie+lap.jpg" width="320" /></a></td></tr>
<tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">When my humans are really good, I reward them by sitting on their laps.</td></tr>
</tbody></table>
I get along well with other cats and still have a playful streak. Give me a catnip mouse and I'll go wild! Occasionally I'll race around the house to let off excess energy. But I do have an affectionate side, too. I love to cuddle next to my humans on the sofa for a marathon neftlix session. And if you sweet talk me, I will reward you with head butts and nose kisses. Wouldn't you love to bring me home?<br />

Larissa is a beautiful chocolate brown cat who was brought to the Animal Defense League last week. Larissa was spayed and placed in the cattery. Two days later, the woman who brought her in said she found 3 kittens in her yard and brought them in. We assume they belong to Larissa. She took to them right away and is back in her role of mother. They are all in foster care and will be available for adoption in about five weeks.<br />
<br />
Larissa is very sweet and affectionate and an attentive mother. The kittens are about three weeks old and just beginning to walk. They are still a bit unsteady on their feet.<br />

Chester is a two year old male with a big heart. He tends to keep away from the main
hustle and bustle of the Cattery, so you may find him resting in one of
the tree houses, or in a quiet corner checking things out from afar.
Don’t let his distance fool you…he is a loving cat who enjoys being
petted. It might take just a little time before he will venture out into
your arms…but with a little patience and a few head scratches, he will be the
loving forever friend that you’ve been waiting for!<br />

for a rewarding volunteer experience? San
Antonio Pets Alive, a rescue organization, takes kittens from the euthanasia list at Animal Care Services and gives them a second chance. Because of the huge number of abandoned kittens at this time of year, Animal Care Services may euthanize up to 100 kittens in a day. Pets Alive needs all the help they can get to save these babies. There are 140+ kittens in the Marbach Rd. Kitten Unit.<br />
<br />
You can support their efforts by volunteering to help feed, clean, cuddle and foster these babies. Many of them require bottle feeding. You can share the
experience with your family and children can also bottle feed under
parental supervision. Evening volunteers are especially needed – even a couple of hours would make a huge difference and save lives!<br />

Catalina is a special grey Tabby. Her beautiful facial markings make her stand out
among the crowd. Don't be concerned that the tip of her ear is missing. She used to be one of the outdoor cats at the Animal Defense League, and that is a sign that she was spayed. They quickly realized that she was not feral - she rubbed up against all the visitors, looking for some attention.<br />

Sassy is a friendly female tabby, about a year and a half old. She was a bit shy when she first came to the Animal Defense League, but she is getting used to things now. She still loves to have her quiet time perched atop a wooden shelf, however when people come to visit, she lets them know how glad she is to see them. She will rub against your legs and is always happy to have her head scratched.<br />

of the sweetest and most loyal animals in a shelter. They might be
a few years older, but with age also comes wisdom, experience, and
patience. Because they’ve been around a while, they’ve learned how to
behave in nearly every family situation and will make great pets for
single families, families with children, older couples, and everyone few
and far between. Come check out our oldies; they are ready and waiting
to settle into their new forever homes and live out their lives being
wonderful companions.<br />
<br />
These animals are spayed/neutered, vaccinated and micro-chipped and can be visited at the <a href="http://www.sahumane.org/" target="_blank">San Antonio Humane Society</a>, 4804 Fredericksburg Rd., San Antonio, TX 78229 <br />

ongoing program at the<a href="http://www.snapus.org/site/PageServer" target="_blank"> SNAP</a> Spay-Neuter and Animal Wellness Clinic in
San Antonio enables residents of the 78228 zip code to get community
cats spayed or neutered for free thanks to a generous grant from The
Summerlee Foundation. The grant covers free spay-neuter surgery for 100
community (feral, stray, or otherwise homeless) cats from within this
zip code. It also reduces the cost of a rabies vaccinations (which is
required by state law if you cannot provide a rabies certificate to
prove the animal is already vaccinated) to just $5. This makes helping
those homeless kitties inexpensive indeed!</span><br /><br /><span style="font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 80%;">You
must bring the cat(s) to the SNAP clinic at 6758 Ingram Rd. in San
Antonio. Cats will be accepted from residents of the zip code or
trappers identifying where cats were trapped within the zip code. All
cats will have the tip of their left ear removed as a sign that they
have been sterilized. There are no exceptions to this rule. Appointments
are preferred, but SNAP will accept cats in live traps without an
appointment. Call <strong>210-673-7722</strong> or email <a href="mailto:SA-Appointments@snapus.org">SA-Appointments@snapus.org</a> to set up an appointment or for more information.</span><br /><br /><span style="font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 80%;">SNAP
would like to express its sincere appreciation to The Summerlee

roaming cats in the 78228 zip code.</span>Lisa Khttp://www.blogger.com/profile/13680969208382881391noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7593364578878365322.post-41703341607146805582012-01-03T05:30:00.000-06:002012-01-08T15:04:06.369-06:00Who Could Resist a Face Like That?<br />

Russian Blue kitten was discovered creeping along an apartment building
several months ago. A kind woman fed him and the next day took him home -
only to discover he was very friendly but also was blind.... He quickly
learned the lay of the land and enjoyed sitting with his owner or
playing in clothes. A few weeks later the kind lady found a 5 week old
black kitten in a neighbor's car engine. The young kitten instantly
bonded with "Kahuna" and they became inseparable. Kahuna follows Minky
(nose to tail) so Kahuna can now run and play. Both are litter-box
trained, spayed/neutered, and have received all vaccinations. They have,
however, caused an uproar among the other cats in the household and
must go - together. Please contact lmcintexas@aol.com </span><span style="font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;">if interested.</span><br />

Fostering the puppies last summer was so much fun, we decided to sign up for the foster program at the Animal Defense League. So now we have six four-week old kittens to take care of. They are now eating canned food and using their litter box (most of the time!) They will be available for adoption in a few weeks, once they are old enough to be spayed and neutered. Stay tuned for more photos.<br />
